SPRAY TAN BEFORE & AFTERCARE

Pre-Spray Tan Guide

For the most flawless, long-lasting glow

24–48 Hours Before Your Appointment:

Exfoliate Thoroughly
Use a gentle, oil-free body scrub or exfoliating mitt to slough off dead skin. Focus on dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, and hands.
Avoid exfoliators with oils and razors with moisture strips, as they can leave behind residue that creates a barrier on the skin, leading to an uneven tan.
If exfoliation isn’t done properly, your tan may apply unevenly and fade more quickly.

Hair Removal
Shave, wax, or epilate at least 24 hours before your appointment to allow pores time to close. This helps prevent dark spots and patchiness.

Hydrate
Moisturize daily in the days leading up to your tan. Well-hydrated skin absorbs color more evenly and fades more gradually.
(Do not moisturize on the day of your appointment.)

The Day of Your Appointment:

No Products on Skin
Arrive with clean, dry skin—free of lotion, oil, deodorant, makeup, or perfume. Avoid Dove and other heavily fragranced or oil-based products before your appointment, as they can create a barrier and cause uneven tanning. These products can interfere with the solution and lead to poor results.

Eat a Light Snack & Stay Hydrated
We recommend having a small snack before your appointment, preferably one with some protein, to keep your energy up and help you feel comfortable during the session. Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated both inside and out for optimal skin health.

Dress Comfortably
Wear or bring dark, loose-fitting clothing and open-toed shoes. Tight clothing or bras can smudge your tan while it’s developing.

Avoid Water & Sweat
Stay dry until your artist tells you it’s safe. No showering, sweating, or working out during this time.

During Your Tan
You may tan with or without undergarments or a bathing suit—whichever feels most comfortable for you. Disposable options are available if needed.

Bonus Tips:

  • Complete manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials, or massages before your appointment.

  • Inform your technician if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any skin sensitivities.

  • If tanning for a special occasion, book your session 1–2 days before for peak glow.

  • First time? Don’t stress—your technician will walk you through everything and ensure you feel totally comfortable and confident.

  • Running late or need to reschedule? Please give 24 hours notice to avoid cancellation fees.

Post-Spray Tan Care Guide

Maintain your flawless glow longer

Immediately After Your Spray Tan:

  • Avoid water until your artist tells you it’s safe. Do not shower, swim, or sweat during this time to allow the tan to fully develop.

  • Wear loose, dark clothing to prevent rubbing or smudging your fresh tan.

First Shower:

  • Use warm water only—avoid hot water as it can fade your tan faster.

  • Skip harsh soaps, scrubs, or exfoliants. Use a gentle, moisturizing body wash or cleanser.

  • Pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing.

Daily Care Tips:

  • Moisturize daily with a fragrance-free, hydrating lotion to keep your skin smooth and extend your tan.

  • Avoid products with alcohol, exfoliants, harsh chemicals, or heavy fragrances like Dove and other scented/oil-based lotions, as these can create a barrier that leads to streaking and premature fading.

  • When bathing, keep showers short and avoid soaking in baths, pools, or hot tubs.

Additional Tips:

  • Avoid heavy sweating or intense workouts that cause excessive sweating in the first 48 hours after your tan.

  • Swimming in chlorinated pools or salt water can fade your tan quickly—apply a waterproof, spray tan-friendly sunscreen to protect your glow. We offer recommended sunscreen options at our studio.
