Chemical Peel Aftercare: What to Expect & How to Protect Your Results

Congratulations on taking the next step toward healthier, more radiant skin. Your PCA Peel® is designed to improve tone, texture, clarity, and overall skin health through controlled exfoliation and skin renewal. Proper aftercare is essential to support the healing process and maximize your results.

What to Expect

Following your PCA Peel®, your skin may feel tight, dry, or slightly sensitive. Some clients experience visible flaking or peeling in the days after treatment, while others do not.

You may experience:

✔ Mild redness
✔ Tightness or dryness
✔ Temporary sensitivity
✔ Visible flaking or peeling

Every client's skin responds differently, and not all PCA Peel® treatments result in visible peeling. Even if you do not peel, your skin is still benefiting from the treatment's exfoliating and corrective effects.

Post-Peel Care Instructions

Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Freshly treated skin is more susceptible to sun damage. Apply a broad-spectrum mineral SPF 30 or higher daily and limit direct sun exposure whenever possible.

Keep Skin Hydrated

Use only the recommended moisturizer and skincare products provided by your skincare professional. Well-hydrated skin supports a healthy recovery and optimal results.

Avoid Active Ingredients

Until your skin has fully recovered, avoid:

  • Retinol and retinoids

  • Alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHAs/BHAs)

  • Physical exfoliants and scrubs

  • Benzoyl peroxide

  • Chemical sunscreen on the face, opt for mineral

  • Vitamin C

  • Other potentially irritating active ingredient - Check with your provider if you have any questions

Avoid Heat & Excessive Sweating

For the first 48 hours following treatment, avoid:

  • Intense exercise

  • Hot tubs

  • Saunas

  • Steam rooms

  • Excessive heat exposure

These activities can increase redness and sensitivity.

Cleanse Gently

Wash with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid washcloths, cleansing brushes, or anything that may create unnecessary friction on the skin.

If You Experience Peeling

Some clients experience visible flaking or peeling after a PCA Peel®, while others do not. Both responses can be completely normal.

If peeling occurs:

  • Allow skin to shed naturally

  • Do not pick, peel, or exfoliate the skin

  • Keep skin moisturized

  • Continue wearing SPF daily

Removing peeling skin prematurely can cause irritation and interfere with the healing process.

When Can I Resume My Regular Skincare Routine?

Most clients can gradually reintroduce their active skincare products once the skin has returned to normal and any sensitivity has resolved in 5-7 days. If you're unsure, please contact your provider before restarting retinoids, exfoliants, or other active ingredients.

When Can I Schedule a Spray Tan?

To ensure the most natural and even spray tan results, wait until your skin has fully recovered before scheduling your appointment.

If you experience visible peeling or flaking, wait until it has completely resolved. Applying a spray tan to actively peeling skin may result in uneven color development and reduced longevity.

Trust the Process

Healthy, glowing skin takes time. As your skin completes its renewal cycle, you'll begin to notice a smoother texture, brighter complexion, and a more radiant appearance.
